Location & Bluetooth (“Nearby Devices”) Data

1. What we collect

  • Precise or Approximate Location – coordinates derived from GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular and/or Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) signals.
  • Bluetooth metadata – reader/device identifiers, signal strength (RSSI) and other technical data needed to complete a door-unlock transaction.

2. Why we collect it

PurposeExamples
Core app functionalityDetect when your phone is in range of an Openpath reader so you can unlock doors hands-free (“Wave/Touch to Unlock”) or via Remote Unlock.
Security & fraud preventionVerify that an unlock request originates from the expected place and detect suspicious log-ins.
Product improvement (aggregated & de-identified)Analyse, in aggregate, how often and where doors are unlocked to optimise reader placement and battery usage.

Background use: On Android, the app may request ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION so that hands-free unlock continues to work when the app is not in the foreground; Google requires that this background access be disclosed in both the Privacy Policy and the in-app permission prompt.

3. Legal basis

We process this data to perform our contract with you (or your organization) and to pursue our legitimate interest in providing a secure, reliable access-control service. If local law requires consent, we will obtain it through the operating-system permission dialogs.

4. Storage, retention & security

  • Transmitted over TLS 1.2+ and stored encrypted at rest in ISO 27001-certified data
  • Raw coordinates and BLE logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted or irreversibly aggregated.
  • Access is limited to authorized personnel under the principle of least privilege.

5. Sharing

We do not sell or rent Location or Bluetooth data. We share it only with:

  1. Cloud-hosting and analytics providers that process data strictly on our behalf under data-processing agreements;
  2. Law-enforcement agencies only when required by applicable law.

6. Your choices

  • Grant or withdraw permission – You can disable Location and/or Bluetooth permissions at any time in your device settings. Some hands-free or background features will stop working if you do so.
  • Request deletion – Email privacy@buzops.com or use the in-app Delete My Data tool to erase historical Location/Bluetooth data associated with your account.
  • Background access on Android – If you prefer the app to access your location only while in use, select “Allow only while using the app” when the permission prompt appears. You can change this later under Settings → Apps → Buzops → Permissions → Location.
